Koh Chang is the largest island in Trat and the second largest island in Thailand with an area 429 square kilometers. It is a mountainous island with several rainforest and waterfalls. Koh chang is part of the Mu Koh Chang National Park. Mu Koh Chang National Park comprises of 52 small islands covering area of 650 sq. Kms.
From Trat Bus Terminal, you can take local shared taxis (Song Taew) to Laem Ngop pier, it takes about 40 minutes and costs 50 Baht per passenger. In the area around Laem Ngop there are 3 piers to Koh Chang, Center Point, Laem Ngop and Thammachat pier. The cheapest and the most convenient pier is Thammachat pier.
Kayaking, sailing, parasailing, windsurfing, water skiing, and diving are popular water activities in Koh Chang. Koh Chang and its surrounding islands provide some excellent opportunities for both novice and experienced divers. Visibility can reach up 30 meter during Oct to end of May. Some of the popular skin diving spots are Koh Wai, Koh Yak , Koh Lao Ya and Koh Rang. One popular nighttime activity not to be missed is a boat ride to view the wondrous sight of fireflies.
There are two Elephant camps in Koh Chang, the Ban Kwan Chang Elephant Camp in Klong Son Village and the Chang Chutiman Tour near Klong Prao Beach. The adventures can vary in length from half hour to two hours and the cost ranges from 450 Baht to 900 Baht. Chang Chutiman operate elephant trekking to the interior of the island and from Klong Prao. Baan Kwan Chang offer elephant treks that take place in an inland velley to the North of the island. To get there turn inland at Klong Son and proceed about 2 km.
