Product Description
These are top-of-the-line leather and neoprene grappling shin instep pads. Used for grappling, MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing. They are NOT intended for beginners or casual students. They are serious gear if you don't want to mess with the cheap stuff and want something that's going to hold up to STRENEOUS workouts.
There is a key difference between these pads and others: no straps on the back of your leg.
They have a high quality leather front with extremely high density foam padding. That's on top of a fully enclosed neoprene "sock" for your calf and an extra elastic strap under your instep (so they don't ride up your leg). Not super easy to get on and off, but very comfortable when you're using them.
Because the neoprene encloses your entire calf, they don't slip around when your fighting takes you to the ground. However, with no leg straps, nothing is cutting into the back of your calf. A VERY welcome change from the pads with straps.
Also, because the padding on the front is so dense, these are VERY popular with anyone doing Muay Thai or kick boxing. For most other "stand-up" arts (where you rarely go to the ground for any length of time), these are overkill and, honestly, you can find cheaper pads that would work just as well.
These have a "traditional" Muay Thai lace/cord tie around the top of the calf. Used to help keep the pads secure - though we find the laces aren't really needed. You can obviously keep them tucked in (or cut them off like we do for grappling).
If you're looking at pair of pads (whether you get them from us or not) make sure you can see the back of the pads. If they don't tell you different, the pads are using straps to hold the shin pad to your leg and they are NOT the same thing.
These are truly some of the finest pads on the market and, if you're a serious martial artist, they are worth every penny.

Nice guards August 16, 2010 Walter Ordered my shin guards for next business day, and they arrived on time with no problems.
There was also a handwritten thank-you note on the invoice. I wear a size 12 sneaker, so I ordered the X-Large, and they fit
very nicely. They're comfortable, and they come off easily too. Pretty much a done deal. No problems at all. It was a good choice.
Amazing product, Amazing Company. August 16, 2010 M. Deely Have been using the shin guards for a few weeks now and they are comfortable and the quality is just excellent. My sparring partner is thankful that I have the extra padding when I am kicking him in the head. I just wish he had a pair.
Shipping is super fast and the guys handling the product even slipped in a personal note. Will do business with them again, and soon.
Piranha Gear Rocks! July 26, 2010 JG I did a mass order on Amazon from a few different companies for MMA gear. The shin guards from Piranha were the first to arrive (less than 48 hours from my order) with a personal letter from the management thanking me for my purchase. I have to say that was a classy touch. However, that would be a moot point if the gear was poor quality. I have to admit the shin guards live up to the hype. They don't slip, offer great protection while taking a beating, and fit comfortably (no digging into my skin and such). Therefore, with their top notch customer service and attention to quality, Piranha is my go to company for now on when purchasing new gear.
love it July 13, 2010 Timothy B., Anderson Jr. been doing Thai kickboxing for about 7 months. turned a lot of heads with these both in and out the ring haha. feel great and the material reminded me of that scuba diving material. it's real tough and the pads are triple stitched, so they should hold up for a bit. only complain was i bought them a size to big but that's my fault,
DK June 22, 2010 Dk (New York) Superior product. Ships and arrived extremely quickly, it took 2 days to arrive on Long Island New York from California. On another note I highly recommend these for Muay Thai. They are extremely durable and remain tight on the shin. I got the mediums and they fit great for my size (5'8 150 lbs). You are not going to find better guards for a cheaper price.
