Product Description Lemmon plays the villainous Prof. Fate who will do anything to beat the noble Great Leslie (Curtis) in a no-holds-barred automobile race from New York
Amazon.com Director Blake Edwards, fresh from the success of the first two Pink Panther movies, indulged his love of classic slapstick comedy with this long free-for-all, which throws in everything but Laurel and Hardy's kitchen sink. The film reunites Some Like It Hot stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, ably aided by a spunky Natalie Wood. The subject is a New-York-to-Paris auto race in the early years of the 20th century, pitting the Great Leslie (Curtis), a goody-goody dressed all in white--even his teeth sparkle--against the malevolent Professor Fate (Lemmon), whose coal-black heart is reflected in his handlebar mustache. He looks like a bill collector from a silent- movie melodrama. Lemmon does double duty, also playing the pampered, drunken king of a small European country, whose laugh sounds like the wail of a cat in heat. The film may be too long for its own good, and you really have to love Jack Lemmon to put up with his over-the-top performance, but it's side-splitting in spots. It's one of those movies, if seen in childhood, that stays in your mind for years afterward. Some of the bigger routines, such as a pie fight of epic proportions, don't work as well as the simple chemistry between the perpetually exasperated Professor Fate and his much-abused assistant, Max (a terrific Peter Falk). Push the button, Max. --Robert Horton

Great Race? Great film July 18, 2010 J. Carey (oregon) This is one of those crazy films that has actually aged pretty well. Jack Lemmon is at his peak as the evil villain and Tony Curtis is perfect as the too good to be true hero. Several funny moments and a few outright belly laughs. Great supporting cast throughout.
Great movie!!!!! July 9, 2010 Jeni C. I LOVE this movie and was so excited to find it on DVD. Jack Lemmon and his sidekick are absolutely hilarious and one cannot help but laugh out loud through this entire enjoyable film. Natalie Wood is excellent, and Tony Curtis is adorable!
"Push the button Max!" July 6, 2010 kareBear (Somewhere between Jeff Foxworthy and Dueling Banjos) I was SOOOO happy to find this! This has been one of my fav movies for years. My mom rented it back in the 80's (don't know when really, I was little) and copied it. I wore the old tape out so bad that for the last year before it finaly broke, it rolled like crazy. I love the song "Sweetheart Tree" and I find myself humming it sometimes when I get bored. For some reason on my DVD part of that song is in sing-a-long, but not the whole song. Seems silly but it's true. This movie is a classic. If you've never seen it, you don't know what you're missing.
The Great Race July 4, 2010 William C. Hanson, Jr. This is one of the great old movies. It is car race from New York to Paris around the turn of the 20th century. This is one crazy movie. It has Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood and Peter Faulk. It is 160 minutes long. If you do not like zany movies with lots of slap stick, you may not like this movie. I really enjoyed it.
Oldie But Goodie June 13, 2010 D. Mohsen (Florida) This title still holds up well today. It's good clean slapstick humor. I was skeptical when an older friend of mine recommended this one, but I came away from it pleasantly surprised. Reminiscent of a live action Dudley Doright episode. Also features Jack Lemmon in a great performance as Professor Fate.
